About FSPR

The Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation, which was established in 2005, is a federally qualified 501(c ) 3 non-profit organization. Working closely with the Schuylkill County Commissioners and Schuylkill Conservation District, the Friends maintains its own independence, while sharing a common mission to improve recreational resources throughout the county. We are a major, grassroots partner with Schuylkill County that supports, maintains, and enhances parks and recreational facilities on county-owned land.

The Friends’ Board consists of dedicated individuals who have volunteered and provided countless hours of their personal time to support the organization’s mission statement and to promote and develop public awareness of recreation. There are no paid employees or staff. All donated funds are used to supplement the county’s parks budget.

Since 2005, the Friends has provided more than $1,000,000 to the redevelopment and enhancements made to Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, the county’s first park. This would never have been possible without the generosity of the James M. and Margaret V. Stine Foundation, which provided the Friends with its first donation of $500,000. Many matching grants through DCNR doubled the contributions.

The Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation accepts donations of property, money, or securities from individuals, organizations, and corporations. These donations are used to enhance programs and services which improve the quality of life for our residents and visitors.
As of 2026 FSPR is now serving as the Sweet Arrow Lake Advisory Board.
